I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and steadfast supporter of our nation's libraries, in light of the recent executive order issued by former President Donald Trump that threatens the essential services and support libraries provide to our communities. I wish to emphasize the critical importance of opposing any policies that risk cutting funding or undermining the role of libraries in serving our society's diverse needs. Libraries represent a cornerstone of our democracy, granting access to information, education, and cultural enrichment for all people regardless of age, background, or ability. They are indispensable resources that allow individuals to pursue educational opportunities and find employment, all within a safe and welcoming environment. Libraries offer access to books, the internet, free mail services, and homework assistance, ensuring that all community members can benefit from these vital resources. The American Library Association (ALA) has launched the "Show Up for Our Libraries" campaign to promote awareness of these pressing issues and encourage individuals like me to urge our elected officials to protect the very lifeblood of our libraries. We can no longer remain passive in the face of increasing threats to libraries' funding and core values. I implore you to stand alongside the communities you represent by advocating for the preservation and advancement of library services. Our libraries are not just repositories of books; they serve as community hubs that foster learning, connection, and opportunity.
