Reverse book ban at Naval Academy, uphold free speech

To: Sen. Scott, Rep. Castor, Sen. Moody

April 2

Donald Trump must reverse the book ban at Naval Academy, and uphold free speech. The decision to remove nearly 400 books from the U.S. Naval Academy library is a concerning attack on free speech and open inquiry. Banning books that promote diversity, equity and inclusion sets a dangerous precedent that could infringe on First Amendment rights. Rather than purging ideas from academic institutions, a commitment to robust debate and exposing students to diverse perspectives should be upheld. Discourse and the free exchange of ideas are crucial for an informed citizenry in a democratic society. This book removal undermines those principles and should be reversed to uphold constitutional protections.
