Rectify wrongful deportation of Abrego-Garcia, ensure due process rights

To: Rep. Brownley, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in Oxnard, CA

April 1

Return Kilmer Abrego-Garcia and those wrongly taken The deportation of Kilmer Armado Abrego-Garcia to El Salvador, despite his having protected legal status in the United States, is a grave violation of due process and human rights. Abrego-Garcia was granted withholding of removal in 2019 after demonstrating a credible risk of harm if returned to El Salvador. Yet, he was unlawfully deported on March 15th due to what ICE admits was an "administrative error." This egregious mistake has put Abrego-Garcia, a Maryland resident with a wife and young child, in the notorious Cecot prison under likely threat of violence. The U.S. government must take immediate action to rectify this injustice and facilitate Abrego-Garcia's prompt return, as it lacks jurisdiction now that he is in Salvadoran custody through no fault of his own. Such careless disregard for legal protections enabling his deportation without due process is unacceptable and demands accountability to prevent further wrongful removals violating individuals' rights.
