I am deeply concerned by the detention of Mahmoud Khalil for exercising his free speech rights. This is a US green card holder who did not engage in violence. If the State Department thinks that they have grounds to revoke his green card, they should have to prove that in open court where we all can bear witness. I urge you to take special action to ensure that Mahmoud Khalil’s rights are being protected and that he has access to every resource to defend himself. This type of stifling of dissent and protest is reminiscent of Putin’s retribution against Alexei Navanley. We can’t let our country go down this path.
