# STATEMENT FROM DONALD J. TRUMP My fellow Americans, We have a MAJOR NATIONAL SECURITY DISASTER folks, believe me. Pete Hegseth—tremendous guy, tremendous—but he shared war plans on Signal, which is an app that deletes messages! Not approved for classified conversations, OK? This is far worse than anything we've ever seen. Pete and Michael Waltz have shown a SHOCKING DISREGARD for America's classified information laws. Tremendous disregard. They've put our incredible service members at risk. The Houthis could have moved away! American ships attacked first! This level of extreme carelessness is very, very disqualifying. These are people with top secret clearances sharing war plans on a commercial app! Totally illegal. The mishandling of classified information is a federal crime with serious penalties. I've always said—and you know this—if you're careless with secrets, you can't be trusted! Can't be trusted! Michael Waltz—nice guy, OK—but he added a SLEAZEBAG JOURNALIST to a military planning chat. Would you add the FAILING NEW YORK TIMES to your battle plans? I don't think so! This is WORSE than having a private server in your basement—at least that wasn't shared with the media! The Presidential Records Act says all communications must be preserved. You can't just set messages to DELETE. That's destruction of evidence! SAD! No one is too big for the law, folks. Every officer would be immediately relieved of command for this. Every intelligence official would lose their clearance. Equal justice under law. That's what I've always said. When I said we needed to be unpredictable with our military, I didn't mean SHARE THE PLANS with Jeff Goldberg! These people are UNFIT to handle classified information. Pete should resign immediately.
