I oppose the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. While protecting the integrity of our elections is important, this bill would create unnecessary barriers to voting and disproportionately affect eligible American citizens—particularly seniors, married women, students, low-income voters, and historically marginalized communities.
Requiring documentary proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections risks disenfranchising millions who are legally eligible to vote but may not have easy access to the required documents. Numerous studies and audits across states have consistently found that instances of noncitizen voting are exceedingly rare. The SAVE Act would solve a problem that does not exist, while creating real and harmful consequences for everyday voters.
Voting is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for those who can navigate burdensome bureaucracy. I am deeply concerned that this legislation is part of a broader effort to suppress voter turnout and erode confidence in our democratic process under the guise of election security.
What specific steps will you take to oppose the SAVE Act and protect every eligible citizen’s access to the ballot box?
Please respond with a clear outline of your position on this bill and any actions you plan to take in defense of voting rights.
