Oppose the SAVE Act!
Vote NO!
It is currently titled, "H.R.22 - SAVE Act."
It's my understanding that women who changed their last name (I.e. through marriage, divorced but kept the spouse's last name) could have their right to vote challenged if the SAVE Act becomes law.
Women who have taken their spouse's legal name may be ineligible to vote because the names will not match their birth certificate. In my opinion, the forms of documentation to validate citizenship and eligibility to vote listed in the SAVE Act are very limited, vaguely described, and highly questionable. For example, marriage certificates as proof of citizenship are not explicitly listed as an acceptable form of documentation in the bill.
Also, voters affected by this would be required to show proof of citizenship IN PERSON. Where in person? When in person? The SAVE Act would cause a list or problems for many citizens. Some other topics of concern with regards to the SAVE Act:
Access to and cost to purchase accepted forms of identification
Timeline to receive accepted forms of identification
Time off from work to go in person
Scheduling to go in person
Transportation and traveling (especially if living in a rural area) to go into an office in person
Afffect on the elderly or infirmed citizens
Affect on citizens who live in other countries
Voter disfranchisement
Voter intimidation
Voter suppression
I'm sure there is more to consider.
The SAVE Act description also includes "and for other purposes."
...What other purposes?!
I don't think "and for other purposes" should be overlooked.
