I am alarmed by the ongoing efforts from the Trump administration and Elon Musk to illegally dismantle critical services and departments by significantly reducing the workforce to the point that these agencies can no longer function. This process is currently happening at the Social Security Administration (SSA). So far, over 7,000 individuals have been fired from the SSA, with more layoffs expected in the coming days. As of the beginning of this week, the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity and the Office of Transformation have been dissolved. These cuts are being framed as efforts for “efficiency.” However, it is clear that they are aimed at undermining the system and unlawfully dismantling the Social Security programs that countless Americans have paid into throughout their working lives and now depend on for their livelihood and survival. Musk has openly referred to Social Security as a Ponzi scheme and called for its dismantling. The agency's former director has warned that if the current administration’s actions continue, payments to beneficiaries could be disrupted within 30 to 90 days. This would have catastrophic consequences, not only for individuals but also for the economy as a whole. It is disgraceful that Republicans in Congress refuse to take action while the Trump administration and Musk pursue actions designed to destroy our government and harm American citizens. I urge you to use your power as elected officials to protect your constituents.
