Protect Public Health, Protect Our Environment!

On what he called the "most important day for reducing regulations in American history," Lee Zeldin, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, announced plans on Wednesday to undo major environmental rules. These include rules that limit pollution from coal power plants, address climate change, and regulate electric vehicles. He stated, "We are striking a blow to the climate change movement to lower living costs for American families, boost American energy, bring auto jobs back to the U.S., and more." However, climate change is based on science, not belief, and ignoring its effects won't help create more jobs in the U.S. The Trump administration's significant rollback of environmental protections could seriously jeopardize public health and our environment. Removing rules that limit pollution from power plants, vehicles, and industries will likely lead to increased pollution in our air and water, worsening health issues like respiratory diseases and cancer across the country. Dismissing the dangers of climate change ignores strong scientific evidence and opens the floodgates for harmful greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to dangerous global warming. These actions seem to put corporate profits above people's well-being and the future of our children. They represent a complete failure of the EPA's primary goal, which is to protect Americans and their communities.
