I am writing to ask you to please do your job and stand up for the future of our country. Right now, Elon Musk and his cronies are attacking Social Security. Meanwhile, the president has announced catastrophic tariffs—taxes the American people will pay, the largest tax hike ever — that are causing the stock market to crash. I am two years away from retirement, but the combination of these two disasters mean I may not get to make that choice and to have the kind of life I have worked for since I got my first formal job at 17. You have the power to stop this. Your branch of government was established first, and the founders saw it as the foundation of our democratic form of government. Musk has no right to steal my retirement security, and you could stop him. These insane tariffs, which will raise the price of things like coffee and bananas that we CANNOT grow in the US, are being enacted under emergency powers, but the only emergency is the one Trump is creating. You can stop him. Congress, not the president, is supposed to set taxes. Please do your job while America still retains some kind of economy.
