Concern regarding recent deportations under Alien Enemies Act
To: Rep. Kean, Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker
From: A constituent in Whitehouse Station, NJ
March 21
I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent deportations of Venezuelan asylum seekers under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. Reports indicate that individuals were deported based on superficial evidence, such as common tattoos misinterpreted as gang affiliations.
Notably, these deportations proceeded despite a federal judge's order to halt them, raising serious questions about adherence to due process and the rule of law. This brings up even deeper concerns about a rogue executive branch inciting a constitutional crisis.
I urge you to investigate these actions thoroughly and ensure that our nation's commitment to justice and human rights is upheld. Sending people to a maximum security prison in a foreign country on circumstantial evidence without due process is unconscionable, and frankly, unAmerican.
