As a former special education teacher, I cannot support the dismantling of the Department of Education. It plays a crucial role in ensuring equal access to quality education for all students across the nation, including those with disabilities like the students I served. Eliminating it would strip away vital resources and protections, particularly for vulnerable populations like students with disabilities and those from low-income families. Abolishing the department risks widening existing achievement gaps and depriving millions of children the opportunity to reach their full potential. Instead of abolishing it, we should work to strengthen and reform the agency to better serve the needs of students, families, and educators. Prioritizing education is an investment in our future workforce and the long-term prosperity of our country.
