As a concerned constituent, I am writing to urge you to stand up against the growing threat of authoritarianism in our country and fulfill your constitutional duties as representatives of the people. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act) would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring U.S. citizens to present an overly restrictive set of documents in-person every time they update their voter registration or when they initially register to vote. Twenty-one million Americans don’t have these documents readily available and could thus be denied their rightful access to the ballot box. This bill would impact everyone, and would especially harm members of the military and their families, as well as married women, rural voters, and working-class Americans. Similarly, President Donald Trump's March 25th election integrity executive order would also put up barriers to voting and would create unfounded mandates for election officials. This executive order is a clear attempt to undermine our democracy and restrict access to the ballot. I urge you to remember your oath to uphold the Constitution and defend our democratic values. It's time to stand up against authoritarianism and do your job as representatives of the people. We need you to reject the SAVE Act and protect our sacred freedom to vote. I urge you to vote against the SAVE Act and instead focus on measures that expand access to voting, protect the integrity of our elections, and ensure that every voter's voice is heard. We need your leadership now more than ever to defend our democracy and protect the rights of all Americans.
