I urge you to oppose SR156 (Carter), a resolution that affirms a "cordial relationship" between Israel, the United States, and Missouri. I strongly object to this measure—not only as a concerned Missourian but as someone who values equality, justice, and human rights for all people. At a time when Israel’s military actions have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians, it is unconscionable for our elected officials to offer unconditional support. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health (as of February 3rd, 2025 and excluding recent casualties), the death toll in Gaza stands at at least 61,709, including 17,492 children. A Yale University study published in The Lancet suggests this figure is likely underestimated by 40%, with women and children accounting for 70% of the fatalities. In the Occupied West Bank, Israeli forces have killed at least 905 people, including 181 children. Prominent human rights organizations—including the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Doctors Without Borders—have documented Israel’s war crimes and accused it of ethnic cleansing. The International Criminal Court has even issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with crimes against humanity. Given these facts, Missouri should not align itself with such actions. This resolution feels like political posturing—an attempt to cater to special interests while ignoring the moral concerns of Missourians who are deeply troubled by the violence in the Middle East. It alienates Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, and Jewish constituents, as well as the majority of Missourians who want our government to prioritize policies that improve lives here at home. I stand with organizations like the Students for Justice in Palestine, Veterans for Peace, and Jewish Voices for Peace in calling on Missouri legislators to reject this resolution and instead demand an immediate ceasefire, the restoration of humanitarian aid, and an end to the suffering of innocent civilians—(especially children, who are never "guilty" of war). Time is running out to act. I ask you to represent my voice and the voices of countless Missourians by opposing SR 156 and advocating for peace. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
