The National Weather Service (NWS) is a critical public service that provides vital data for everyday decisions and saves lives. Accurate weather forecasts are essential for agriculture, transportation, and protecting communities from severe weather events. However, the Trump administration's indiscriminate budget cuts have undermined this essential agency, putting public safety at risk. We must urge our elected representatives to reject these reckless reductions and reinstate full funding for the NWS and NOAA. The catastrophic 1997 Red River flood highlights the importance of robust weather forecasting and preparedness. As climate change increases the frequency of extreme weather, expert data from the NWS is more crucial than ever for safeguarding lives and livelihoods. Our communities' safety and economic stability depend on Congressional action to protect this invaluable public service.
