An Open Letter

To: Rep. McGuire

From: A constituent in Forest, VA

April 1

I'm writing to express my outrage and disgust at your support for the recent deportations to El Salvador. These actions are a blatant violation of human rights and put the lives of countless individuals at risk. Your willingness to back these deportations, despite the serious constitutional concerns and the risk of torture and harm, is appalling. It's even more egregious that you're doing so in the face of a federal judge's order blocking these deportations due to the danger they pose. I demand to know: have you no conscience? Are you so beholden to partisan interests that you're willing to sacrifice the well-being and safety of vulnerable people? What's even more alarming is that there's no proof that the majority of these individuals were violent. In fact, due to the lack of due process, it's impossible to know for certain. The government's own data shows that many deportations are for non-violent offenses, such as immigration-related violations or minor crimes. I ask you, how can you justify supporting the deportation of people without ensuring they've had a fair chance to prove their innocence or seek asylum? Or, actually, let me save your time and answer for you: You can’t justify it. Don't you think it's your duty as a representative to protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status? Again, let me save your time and answer for you: It is your duty. Your support for these deportations raises serious questions about your character and courage. Are you a coward, too afraid to stand up for what's right? Or are you something far worse: a willing accomplice to cruelty and injustice?
