Reinstate affordable housing preservation funds to prevent homelessness crisis.

The Trump administration's termination of the $1 billion Green and Resilient Retrofit Program threatens the affordability and livability of tens of thousands of low-income housing units across the country. This money was essential for preserving aging affordable housing properties through renovations like replacing outdated systems, repairing leaky roofs and windows, and improving insulation and energy efficiency. Without these crucial funds, many projects enabling affordable housing to remain viable for decades will struggle to move forward or may fail entirely. Affordable housing is already in critically short supply, and allowing more units to deteriorate unnecessarily will only exacerbate the housing crisis for vulnerable populations. The loss of this program jeopardizes the homes and financial stability of countless low-income seniors, families, and individuals with nowhere else to turn. This cut undermines efforts to address the nation's housing needs and will force many into substandard living conditions or homelessness. Reinstating funding for preservation of affordable housing stock is vital to prevent further harm to already marginalized communities and ensure access to decent, secure shelter for all Americans.
