At the order of the Veterans Affairs Department, the 27 tribal flags proudly flown at the Phoenix VA have been removed. The reason? “To bring consistency and simplicity to the display of flags throughout the department, ensuring a singular focus on serving the needs of Veterans, their families, caregivers and their survivors.” What an insult! Sure, let’s focus on flag displays-not cuts to budget, staffing, and medical care. The tribal flag removal from the Phoenix VA comes the same week as at least 10 articles mentioning the Navajo Code Talkers were pulled from U.S. Army and Department of Defense websites. This is unacceptable. What are you going to do about these attacks on key members of our American heritage?
