An Open Letter

To: Rep. Crank, Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Colorado Springs, CO

March 30

I’m writing to urge you to reject the mandatory spending cuts laid out in House Concurrent Resolution 14 as the budget process continues. Congress must pass a budget that actually benefits Americans instead of slashing funds to essential life-saving programs like Medicaid to finance tax breaks for the wealthy. The budget resolution does not yet specify cuts to Medicaid or other essential programs, but the $880 billion spending cut it mandates from the Energy & Commerce committee will unquestionably lead to Medicaid cuts. If the reconciliation bill that follows this budget resolution includes cuts to Medicaid, or any other essential program like Medicare or SNAP, I will hold this office accountable for lying to us constituents. I would like a written response from the legislative aide assigned to this policy area. Thank you for your time and consideration.
