I’m so upset about the young Venezuelan men sent without due process to a prison in El Salvador, where they are almost surely enduring human rights abuses. I’m upset because of what this illegal act on the part of the Trump administration portends for rule of law. But I’m also deeply concerned for the wellbeing of these young people who were here legally and who were seized on make-believe pretexts and now may languish in a gulag for as long as a year. I can’t believe nothing more can be done for them. Is there no mechanism by which they could be brought back to the U.S. and undergo a fair hearing, as is their constitutional right?
