I urge you to oppose any efforts to defund National Public Radio (NPR)—a vital source of news, education, and cultural programming that serves communities across the nation.
Despite misleading claims, NPR does not spread partisan propaganda—it upholds the highest standards of journalistic integrity and editorial independence. Public media provides fact-based reporting that educates, informs, and strengthens democracy.
Additionally, NPR receives only a small portion of its funding from the federal government, with the majority coming from corporate sponsors, foundations, and listener contributions. However, even this modest public investment is crucial, particularly for rural and underserved communities where commercial media options are limited or nonexistent.
Defunding NPR would be an attack on press freedom and an assault on the public’s right to reliable, nonpartisan information. Instead of targeting public media, Congress should be prioritizing real issues that benefit the American people—such as investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
NPR plays a critical role in ensuring an informed and engaged public, which is essential for a healthy democracy. I urge you to reject these misguided efforts to defund public broadcasting and instead defend NPR as an invaluable resource that serves the greater good of our society.
I look forward to your response and your commitment to protecting press freedom.
