The actions taken against the Institute of Museum and Library Services are deeply concerning. Placing the entire staff of this vital agency on administrative leave and disabling their email access threatens to disrupt critical programs that provide funding for libraries and museums across the country. These institutions play an essential role in promoting education, preserving cultural heritage, and serving as community hubs – all supported by taxpayer dollars. Rather than undermining IMLS, we should be strengthening its ability to carry out its mission of awarding grants that enable libraries and museums to maintain staff, facilities, and innovative programs benefiting people in every state. From workforce training initiatives to resources for Native American tribes to digital materials distribution, IMLS funding ensures equitable access to invaluable educational and cultural resources, especially for underserved communities. I urge you to take immediate action to reinstate IMLS staff and restore the agency's full operational capacity. Disrupting or terminating grant programs would be a disservice to the American people who rely on these public institutions. We cannot allow this plunder of services that our tax dollars are meant to provide. Please act swiftly to defend IMLS and the vital role it plays.
