Demand Transparency, Due Process and Detainee Location Tracking for Immigrant Detainees The recent deportation of over 200 Venezuelan immigrants to El Salvador without due process raises grave concerns about transparency and accountability. While the government claims these individuals have gang ties, many appear to have no criminal records, and the lack of evidence presented is deeply troubling. This hasty action has torn families apart and left loved ones desperately searching for their relatives who have essentially disappeared from U.S. custody. It is imperative that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) online detainee locator system be immediately updated to reflect the current whereabouts of all detainees, including those transferred to El Salvador. Families have a fundamental right to know the location and status of their detained relatives. Obstructing access to this crucial information only breeds more fear, confusion and mistrust. Furthermore, a thorough investigation must be launched into the legal basis and procedures followed for these mass deportations under the outdated Alien Enemies Act. Curtailing due process and bypassing immigration courts sets a dangerous precedent that undermines human rights and the rule of law. Concrete evidence, rather than unsubstantiated allegations, should be the determining factor in such consequential decisions that impact human lives. Restoring transparency through the detainee tracking database and ensuring rigorous oversight of deportation proceedings is essential to upholding the principles of justice and human dignity that should guide U.S. immigration policies. The United States has an obligation to treat all people, citizen or non-citizen, with fairness and respect for their fundamental rights. No matter your party, you are elected and paid to collaborate across the aisle - protect our democracy!
