Defend judicial oversight and separation of powers

To: Sen. Ricketts, Sen. Fischer, Rep. Bacon

From: A constituent in Papillion, NE

March 20

The President's recent actions and statements show a blatant disregard for the judiciary and separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution. By claiming the executive branch has absolute power over certain areas like immigration and is not subject to judicial review, even from federal judges, the administration is overstepping its authority and precipitating a dangerous constitutional crisis. This stance undermines the vital system of checks and balances that prevents any single branch of government from accumulating unchecked power. The courts serve as an essential counterweight to the executive, ensuring no president can act unilaterally in defiance of the law and protections afforded by the Constitution. Attempts to bypass judicial oversight pose a direct threat to democratic norms and the rule of law. I urge you to take a strong stand defending the authority of the federal judiciary and its ability to rule on the legality of executive actions. This constitutional principle is fundamental to maintaining our system of governance with its separation of powers. Ignoring court orders cannot be permissible for any administration. Please use your position to denounce these attacks on an independent judiciary and reaffirm Congress' role in upholding the Constitution as a co-equal branch of government.
