I strongly oppose the Vice President and Second Lady's planned trip to Greenland. Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory under the Kingdom of Denmark, not part of the United States. Visiting under the guise of "security" concerns is a thinly veiled attempt to exert American influence over a territory that belongs to a close ally. This is an unacceptable overreach that undermines Danish sovereignty. Previous administrations rightfully respected Greenland's autonomy under Danish rule. The current disgraceful rhetoric about "adversaries advancing priorities" in Greenland is fearmongering intended to justify unwanted U.S. interference in the affairs of our NATO partner. Greenland's democratically elected leaders have made it clear this visit is unwelcome. Ignoring their wishes is a slap in the face to the people of Greenland and damages relations with Denmark. I urge the administration to cancel these misguided plans immediately and repair the damage done by reversing course on this ill-conceived trip that serves no legitimate American interests.
