Protect the Department of Education

To: Rep. Bonamici, Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley

From: A verified voter in Hillsboro, OR

March 28

I urge you to reject H.R. 899, the bill proposing to terminate the Department of Education. Eliminating this vital federal agency would have severe consequences for our nation's education system and undermine efforts to provide equal access to quality education for all students. The Department plays a crucial role in enforcing civil rights laws, distributing funding to support disadvantaged students and schools, conducting research to improve teaching methods, and setting academic standards. Dismantling it would remove essential federal oversight and resources, exacerbating inequalities and hampering educational progress. Instead of abolishing the Department, we should work to strengthen and reform it to better serve the needs of students, teachers, and communities across the country. I implore you to uphold the government's commitment to public education and vote against this detrimental legislation.
