The private prison and immigrant detention industry is a grave violation of human rights and dignity. Profiting from the incarceration of human beings creates perverse incentives to maximize numbers rather than focusing on rehabilitation or just immigration proceedings. These facilities frequently have substandard conditions, lack proper oversight, and prioritize cost-cutting over humane treatment. People in custody, including immigrants awaiting civil hearings, deserve to be treated with basic human decency, not as commodities for corporate gain. We must dismantle this unethical system that dehumanizes the most vulnerable, replacing it with transparent, accountable public operations centered on human rights and due process. No human being should be imprisoned or detained for the enrichment of private companies. Justice and liberty demand an end to these inherently abusive for-profit prisons and detention centers.
