The continued impoundment of congressionally appropriated funds represents an existential threat to our democratic system of checks and balances. A short-term continuing resolution alone is insufficient to uphold constitutional principles and reassert legislative prerogatives.
This negotiation is imperative to prevent further consolidation of power and defiance of the rule of law. Congress must refuse the systematic dismantling of democratic institutions through redefining the power of the purse, and withhold cooperation until actionable accountability measures and ironclad funding safeguards are instituted. Otherwise, the executive branch will continue to ignore congressionally apportioned funding for veteran care, national defense, cancer research, and more for your constituents as it desires.
The stakes are too high for an incremental response – a resolute defense of democracy and the separation of powers is urgently warranted. Vote no to any clean CR, and shut down the government if necessary to stand for the Constitutional order.
