Deportation of Legal Permanent Residents for Exercising Free Speech
To: Rep. Carson, Sen. Young, Sen. Banks
From: A verified voter in Indianapolis, IN
March 28
I am appalled by the administration's effort to deport Yunseo Chung, a 21-year-old Columbia University student and lawful permanent resident who has lived in the United States since she was seven years old. Chung faces deportation following her participation in pro-Palestinian protests related to the conflict in Gaza. Deporting people for exercising free speech is directly inconsistent with our nation's democratic principles. We need to make it clear to the administration that we can’t exile political dissidents. Not in the United States. As an elected official protecting the interests of Hoosiers, I ask you to please take action and make your position clear that we will protect our most sacred right of free speech.
