Investigate breach of classified info, appoint special counsel

To: Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 26

Congress must act swiftly to investigate the serious breach of national security protocols regarding discussions of military operations on the insecure messaging app Signal. The testimony from the CIA Director and Director of National Intelligence raises deeply concerning questions about the handling of classified information. Sharing operational details like targets, weapons, and attack sequences on a public app is an egregious violation that jeopardizes mission security. An independent special counsel should be appointed to conduct a thorough inquiry and determine the full extent of the mishandling of sensitive data. Additionally, public congressional hearings are imperative to provide transparency and accountability. The American people deserve answers about how such a lapse could occur at the highest levels of government. National security cannot be treated carelessly. Decisive action enforcing proper safeguards must be taken to restore faith in our intelligence community's ability to protect critical operations. The severity of this incident warrants an expedited and uncompromising response to address this unacceptable breakdown in protocol. Our nation's interests and the safety of our troops depend on the responsible management of classified material.
