Before IDEA, kids with disabilities were excluded—like in Mills v. Board (1972), where schools claimed they were ‘too costly’ to teach. The Dept of Education enforces IDEA’s lifesaving protections:
✅ Free, access to education (FAPE)
✅ Inclusion in classrooms (LRE)
✅ Fair evaluations & due process
Abolishing the Dept or shifting enforcement to HHS? Dangerous. HHS handles health, not education—they can’t ensure IEPs, fight classroom bias (see Larry P. v. Riles), or stop schools from abandoning kids like in Mills.
PARC v. PA (1971) ended laws barring students with disabilities from schools. Without the Dept of Education, who’ll enforce these rights? We can’t go back.
Protect the Dept of Education. 7.5M kids rely on it.
