I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing impact of the Citizens United v. FEC decision on our democracy. This ruling has allowed unlimited corporate and special interest spending in elections, drowning out the voices of everyday Americans and eroding trust in our political system.
The decision opened the floodgates for “dark money,” enabling wealthy donors and corporations to influence elections without accountability. This has led to numerous instances of corruption, where political contributions have been tied to favorable legislation or regulatory decisions. Such practices undermine the principle of equal representation and tilt policymaking in favor of those with the deepest pockets.
To restore faith in our democracy, we must end Citizens United by pursuing a constitutional amendment or enacting robust campaign finance reforms. It’s time to ensure that elections reflect the will of the people—not the wealth of a few.
