I just listened to hours of Senator Bookers speech. He conveyed the thoughts and feelings of so many of us! Cutting Medicaid to give billionaires huge tax cuts is wrong, blows up the deficit and throws our state into a crisis! As a daughter who had an elderly father on Medicaid that allowed him to get vital medications and healthcare, I know how essential it is! My elderly father broke his hip and had to be placed in skilled nursing twice to get the physical therapy he needed to be able to return home, I know how vital it is! As a daughter who had an elderly mother in nursing home care with dementia, I know how vital Medicaid is! As a person who has worked in mental health for decades with severely mentally ill, I know how necessary Medicaid is to community mental health and those with severe mental illness! None of those people are fraudsters! Community mental health is always running on the bare minimum. There is no fraud, waste or abuse there! My parents aren’t fraudsters! Over 970,000 Oklahomans are on Medicaid. Gutting Medicaid means nursing homes will close, elderly like both of my parents will be without assistance, elderly will be on the streets as some have no family to care for them, rural hospitals will close and people will be forced to choose between eating and healthcare! Children will not get the healthcare they need! All while giving huge tax cuts to billionaires! This is not right and anyone with good conscience can’t be for this! This isn’t about efficiency! This isn’t about fraud, waste and abuse! It’s about privatizing all federal government and enriching the richest amongst us! All while blowing up deficit by trillions of dollars! Cory Booker spoke for all of us over 25 hours! I hope you will heed his call and ours! You work for us- not billionaires!
