Preserve funding for public libraries and community enrichment.

Protecting the funding for our public libraries is crucial for ensuring access to educational resources and enrichment opportunities for all members of our community. The proposed budget cuts would severely undermine the ability of the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library to provide essential services and programs that foster learning, personal growth, and community engagement. As a regular patron, I have witnessed firsthand the immense value that our library system brings to people of all ages and backgrounds. From early literacy initiatives that set children on the path to academic success, to technology training and job search assistance for adults, to cultural events and lifelong learning opportunities for seniors, the library plays a vital role in empowering our citizens. Eliminating $14.5 million in state funding, amounting to a staggering 29% reduction, would force the library to drastically curtail operations, leading to reduced hours, staff layoffs, and the potential closure of branches. This would disproportionately impact underserved communities that rely heavily on the library for access to books, computers, and educational resources. I urge you to reconsider these devastating cuts and instead prioritize the preservation of a robust and well-funded public library system. Investing in libraries is an investment in the future of our state, fostering a more educated, informed, and engaged citizenry. Please restore the library's funding and ensure that these vital community hubs remain accessible to all.
