I am writing to you as a concerned constituent to express my deep concern regarding the recent actions of the Trump administration, which appear to disregard constitutionally protected rights and the fundamental principle of Separation of Powers clearly outlined in our Constitution. I urge you to honor your oath to defend and uphold the Constitution by taking action to address these concerning developments. Trump’s recent actions have raised serious constitutional concerns: 1. Attacks on Judicial Independence: President Trump's recent accusation that a federal judge was trying to "usurp the presidency" is a direct challenge to the independence of the judiciary. This undermines the crucial system of checks and balances that forms the bedrock of our democracy. 2. Elimination of Federal Agencies: Dismantling federal agencies, such as the Department of Education and the EPA's scientific research arm, through executive orders threatens to erode institutional checks on executive authority. These actions challenge the foundational structure of American democracy and the separation of powers. 3. Broad Deportation Powers: Refusing to answer a federal judge's questions on deportations to El Salvador, citing broad authority under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, raises serious concerns about due process and individual rights. 4. Politicization of Independent Agencies: The firing of two Democratic members of the Federal Trade Commission alters the typical partisan balance and suggests an attempt to politicize traditionally independent agencies. 5. Misuse of Federal Funding: Threats to withhold funding from New York's transit system and the University of Pennsylvania for political reasons appear to be an abuse of executive power. These actions represent a significant departure from established democratic norms and strike at the heart of our constitutional framework. As your constituent, I implore you to act: 1. Exercise robust congressional oversight to investigate these potential abuses of power. 2. Use your legislative authority to protect the independence of federal agencies and the judiciary. 3. Speak out publicly against actions that undermine our constitutional principles. 4. Consider appropriate measures, including censure or impeachment proceedings, if warranted by the severity of constitutional violations. You took an oath upon entering office: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same...". President Trump is not honoring his oath, and it falls to Congress to hold him accountable. Preserving democracy and the integrity of our Constitution depends on you. Uphold your sworn duty and take action to address these alarming developments. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to hearing about the steps you will take to address these concerns. Sincerely,
