House Republicans have passed budget resolution H.Con.Res.14, extending tax cuts passed during the first Trump Administration in 2017, including $4.5 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. The budget will finance these cuts by making $2 trillion in draconian spending cuts to life-saving social programs, especially Medicaid, and by raising the debt limit by $4 trillion. These budget cuts endanger the lives and financial stability of millions of Americans, and it would have disastrous consequences for the fiscal health of the United States. Now Senate Republicans are moving forward with a new budget plan that makes the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent and adds a further $1.5 trillion in cuts. Despite the fact that budget reconciliation rules require that a decrease in revenue must be offset with equal amounts of spending cuts, Senate Republicans have decided to avoid the burden of accurate math by bypassing input from the Senate Parliamentarian who enforces those rules. I’m writing to urge you to reject the new Senate budget plan that is going against procedural rules and moving forward without necessary input from the Senate Parliamentarian. If the GOP insists on making draconian cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid, in order to finance tax breaks for billionaires, Republicans will pay a penalty in electoral support for decades to come. Vote No on this budget resolution.
