Respect gender self-identification - oppose trans erasure bills

To: Sen. Sundareshan, Rep. Gutierrez, Rep. Mathis

March 22

Opposing Arizona's HB2062: Trans Erasure Bill Denies Self-Determination Trans erasure bills create significant barriers for transgender and non-binary individuals seeking to update identity documents to accurately reflect their gender. These measures, which often prohibit gender-neutral markers or require invasive medical procedures, perpetuate discrimination and deny the basic right of self-identification. Such legislation directly impacts the wellbeing and safety of an already vulnerable community by forcing them to carry documentation inconsistent with their lived identity. A failure to respect one's gender opens the door to harassment, exclusion from spaces and services, and potential violence. I urge your opposition to Arizona's HB2062 and any trans erasure bills that uphold antiquated policies rooted in bias rather than human rights and personal autonomy. All people deserve to have legal documents aligning with their authentic selves.
