Defend Free Speech Rights, Release Activist Mahmoud Khalil

To: Rep. Moulton, Sen. Markey, Sen. Warren

From: A constituent in Salem, MA

March 11

<message> The arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and recent Columbia University graduate, for peacefully leading antiwar protests on campus appears to be an unlawful violation of his First Amendment rights. As a legal permanent resident of the United States, he should not have been detained without due process or a warrant, especially for exercising his constitutionally protected right to free speech. This action by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sets a dangerous precedent of stifling dissent and targeting students based on their political views. We must defend the freedom of expression on college campuses and prevent the government from unjustly deporting individuals for voicing their opinions. I urge you to call for Khalil's immediate release and an investigation into this apparent infringement on civil liberties by federal authorities. As members of Congress, it is your duty to take action on this matter. </message>
