I’m writing to urge you to support Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s participation in the multistate lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s executive order attempting to pause congressionally appropriated federal funding.
This executive action is a clear violation of the separation of powers outlined in the U.S. Constitution. The power to allocate funding rests solely with Congress—not the executive branch. By halting the disbursement of funds that Congress has already approved, the Trump administration is undermining a core democratic principle and setting a dangerous precedent.
Attorney General Nessel’s legal challenge is not about politics—it’s about protecting our system of checks and balances and ensuring that no president, regardless of party, can sidestep the law to make unilateral decisions with sweeping consequences.
I urge you to speak out in support of her efforts to defend constitutional authority and uphold the rule of law.
