Hundreds of thousands of public, school, and academic libraries across America depend on federal funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to provide essential services to their communities. By proposing to eliminate IMLS, the Trump Administration is threatening to undermine literacy efforts, internet access, job assistance, resources for the visually impaired, and enrichment programs that libraries offer, especially in rural areas and low-income neighborhoods. This short-sighted decision would deprive millions of our most vulnerable citizens of crucial educational and community resources. I urge you to protect IMLS funding to ensure all Americans, regardless of location or means, can continue benefiting from the invaluable offerings of their local libraries.
