The Trump Administration's decision to terminate federal funding for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in Indiana will have devastating consequences for food banks and the tens of thousands of Hoosiers facing food insecurity. TEFAP provided around $6 million annually to the state, a crucial lifeline for food banks like Hoosier Hills Food Bank that distributed TEFAP commodities. The loss of this funding will significantly impair their ability to serve the 1 in 8 Hoosiers struggling with hunger. Food insecurity has severe impacts on physical and mental health, especially for children whose development can be permanently stunted by lack of nutritious food. With rising costs due to inflation, more families are being pushed into food insecurity. Restoring TEFAP funding is critical to support food banks and ensure no Hoosier goes hungry. I urge you to fight for the swift reinstatement of this essential program that provides a vital lifeline to our most vulnerable citizens.
