My dad is Chilean. He and my mother were living in Santiago in 1973, when Pinochet’s coup happened. They lived through that time period and seeing all the “desaparecidos”, people who were kidnapped and Lord knows what ever happened to them. I’ve heard those stories all my life.
I never imagined I’d see that happening here, in the US.
I just watched the video of the Tufts grad student being approached on the street by people who are covering their faces and not wearing any official uniform. They literally look like kidnappers. The stories of so many immigrants, who had proper documentation, were here legally, yet have been grabbed and taken God knows where, without any sort of due process…
It is terrifying. This is not supposed to happen, certainly not here.
What are you doing to stop these kidnappings? How are you going to ensure that these victims get due process?
