Uphold the Separation of Powers Laid out in the Constitution

To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Huizenga

From: A constituent in Portage, MI

March 17

Trump's defiance of the court order to halt deportations under the Alien Enemies Act is a concerning violation of the separation of powers and rule of law. Despite a federal judge explicitly ordering any planes carrying migrants to turn back, the administration proceeded with deporting hundreds of alleged gang members to El Salvador. This blatant disregard for the judiciary undermines our democratic system of checks and balances. Compliance with lawful court orders is not optional - it is essential for maintaining a functional government bounded by the Constitution. The courts must hold the administration accountable for any proven defiance to protect the authority of the judicial branch and prevent further erosion of institutional norms. Upholding the rule of law is paramount, even when it conflicts with specific policy aims of the executive branch. I urge you to take swift action to investigate and address this alarming incident through all available legal channels and Congressional oversight authorities. Failing to do so would set a dangerous precedent that could enable further consolidation of power in the presidency at the expense of our democratic guardrails.
