I urge you to oppose H.J. Res. 59 / S.J. Res. 18, which would block the CFPB’s efforts to cap excessive overdraft fees. These fees disproportionately harm working families, students, seniors, and low-income consumers, often pushing them further into financial hardship.
Overdraft fees are not about covering a bank’s costs—they are a $9 billion annual revenue source for financial institutions, with some charging over $35 per transaction. The CFPB’s rule simply ensures that overdraft fees remain fair and proportional to actual costs, rather than being used as a predatory tool.
Ohioans deserve consumer protections that prevent unnecessary financial strain. Please stand with your constituents, not big banks, and vote NO on this resolution.
I would appreciate a response explaining your position.
