Efforts to replace the current electoral system with a winner-take-all approach for allocating electoral votes would undermine the principles of democratic representation. This proposal would disenfranchise many Nebraskans by awarding all of the state's electoral votes to the statewide popular vote winner, ignoring the will of voters in congressional districts that favored a different candidate. Such a system distorts the one person, one vote ideal and creates an uneven playing field that advantages whichever party happens to control the state legislature when new maps are drawn after each census. I urge you to reject any bill that would abandon our state's prudent approach of awarding electoral votes proportionally and commit to upholding a fair, representative process for all Nebraskans.
