Pursue diplomacy with Iran, oppose unilateral escalations and sanctions.

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Peters

From: A constituent in San Diego, CA

March 18

The United States must cease its military escalations and warmongering against Iran. Waging war for resources is unethical and destabilizes the region. The recent bombings by U.S. strategic bombers in Iraq and joint exercises with Israel, specifically practicing for strikes on Iran, are unjustified acts of aggression. President Trump's rhetoric of "dire consequences" for Iran and threatening military invasion show a dangerous pattern toward entering an unwanted, destructive conflict. This administration's so-called "maximum pressure" campaign on Iran through economic sanctions and covert operations has already inflicted suffering on the Iranian people. Now provocative actions like the strikes on Houthi leaders in Yemen are being used as pretexts for direct confrontation with Iran itself. The American public has not consented to another war in the Middle East. We must pursue diplomatic solutions and deescalate tensions before more lives are tragically lost. Global peace and human rights should be prioritized over corporations profiting from perpetual wars for natural resources.
