I was disappointed by the disjointed and weak messaging from Democrats in the house and senate during the State of the Union address last night. These are unprecedented times in this country and they require a much bigger, bolder, aggressive response than matching shirts and little signs. Stop worrying about decorum. Decorum is dead; Trump and the Republicans have killed it. They don’t abide by norms anymore, so why are Democrats?! The Democratic leaders need to show some real fight! And they need better messaging than “this is not normal” and “Trump lies.” As a collective, you must beat the drum over and over and over again, that Trump and his cronies are destroying popular programs like social security, Medicare, and Medicade, and raising taxes on the middle class, so billionaires can get millions of dollars in tax cuts. To help put faces to this messaging, highlight the career civil servants and veterans who have been fired without cause and their important contributions to our country. Make sure the American people understand that the DOGE cuts and Republican budget isn’t about cutting inefficiencies; it’s about cutting taxes for billionaires at the expense of the American people. Democracy is dying in front of us and in order to save, you and your colleagues need to show some real fight. Your constituents are losing hope watching the Democratic Party flounder around and speak softly with twenty different voices.
