The Trump administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport and imprison Venezuelans without due process is unconstitutional and unjust. Many of those deported have no criminal record and may not even be gang members, yet they face imprisonment in El Salvador's prisons under terrible conditions without any opportunity to contest the allegations against them. This violates the Fifth Amendment's guarantee of due process, which applies to all persons, not just citizens. Imprisoning people without due process is a cruel practice typically used by authoritarian regimes. Outsourcing such imprisonment to a foreign government does not make it constitutional. This policy facilitates human rights abuses and undermines America's commitment to justice and the rule of law. I am frightened about how this could be expanded to apply to anyone that the Trump administration considers an enemy. Since there is no due process, they don't need a reason. I urge you to speak out against these deportations and work to uphold due process rights for all.
