Protect the DOE and oppose H.R. 899
To: Rep. Golden
From: A constituent in Belfast, ME
March 7
I'm writing to ask that you oppose any legislation, including H.R. 899, or efforts by the executive branch to abolish the Department of Education.
Eliminating the department would likely result in Maine losing Title I funding and jeopardize financial assistance to schools with high percentages of children from low-income families. This funding is crucial for supporting students in economically disadvantaged areas and helps pay for staff positions, technology, and professional development. The loss of this funding could have a substantial impact on Maine's ability to support its most vulnerable student populations and maintain educational equity across the state. It would devastate public schools, hurt students with disabilities, and eliminate crucial workforce development programs that boost our economy.
Education is a fundamental right, not a privilege for the wealthy. Thank you for your time and consideration.
