End Citizens United

To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick, Rep. Houlahan

From: A constituent in Elverson, PA

March 30

The influence of corporate money in politics has severely undermined the integrity of our democratic system. The Citizens United decision enabled a torrent of special interest dark money to flood campaigns, drowning out the voices of everyday Americans. Reversing this disastrous ruling through a constitutional amendment is crucial to restoring power to the people. The proposed We the People Amendment would finally end the corrosive fiction of corporate personhood and make it clear that money is not tantamount to free speech. Corporations are artificial entities, not people, and should not be granted the same constitutional rights. Unchecked corporate spending in elections has created an imbalance that limits the ability of citizens to truly influence their elected representatives. Amending the Constitution is a monumental undertaking, but one made necessary by the Citizens United decision's deleterious effects. The growing dominance of big money in politics threatens the very foundation of American democracy. Urgent action is needed to get corporate interests out of the electoral process and return power to the citizenry where it belongs. I urge you to support the We the People Amendment as a vital step towards realizing a government truly of, by, and for the people.
